Marcus Mariota named Falcons’ starting QB

Seven-year NFL veteran Marcus Mariota hasn’t began an NFL sport since 2019, taking part in backup to Derek Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders the previous two seasons. 

Mariota signed with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason, the place it seems his two-year start-less streak will finish. 

On Wednesday, the Falcons’ first day of coaching camp, quarterbacks coach Charles London mentioned Mariota could be the workforce’s starter below heart. 

Entering camp, the Falcons’ competitors for starting quarterback, on paper, consisted of Mariota and rookie third-round choose Desmond Ridder. While the Falcons have excessive hopes for Ridder, who they chose with the No. 74 select of Cincinnati, they are going to go together with the veteran for now. 

“Obviously, we’ve got a plan for each of them. Marcus is the starter,” London said on Wednesday. “That’s how we’re going into this thing.”

The 28-year-old attempted solely 30 passes in two seasons with the Raiders, going 18-for-30 for 230 yards, with a landing and an interception. 

Mariota was drafted No. 2 general by the Tennessee Titans in 2015. He began 61 video games over 5 seasons with the Titans, compiling a 29-32-0 report within the common season and a 1-1 mark within the postseason. 

He completed his profession with the Titans, passing for 13,207 yards with 77 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. On the bottom, Mariota posted 1,574 speeding yards and 13 touchdowns.
