Ravens free agency started with a boom! We signed former Giants’ G Kevin Zeitler to a three-year deal, worth $22.5 million, including $16 million guaranteed.
Teams were allowed to begin negotiating with the agents of players that will be unrestricted free agents. However, Because Zeitler got released by the Giants, he could sign This is amazing news for the Ravens because we have struggled at guard since Marshall Yanda retired.
Apparently, Yanda played a role in getting Zeitler to Baltimore.
“I actually reached out to Marshal Yanda, asked him a bunch of questions about the O-line and whatnot,” Zeitler said during an interview with Glenn Clark Radio. “He thought it’d be a great fit. It was great talking to him and getting his opinion on everything.Interview with Glenn Clark Radio.
Zeitler spent seven seasons in the AFC North, he played five with the Bengals and two with the Browns. He apparently loves the AFC North. It’s also great because being a cap-casualty means he won’t affect any compensatory picks we get from the loss of players like Yannick Ngakoue and Matt Judon.
Judon went to the Patriots on a 4-year deal, worth $56 million. And Ngakoue went to the Raiders on a 2-year deal, worth $26 million. Personally, I wouldn’t pay that much for the production they gave us. I wish them the best.
Ravens free agency rumor: Interest in Haason Reddick
Speaking of losing Judon and Ngakoue, there is a rumor that the Ravens have some interest in Haason Reddick. Pass rushers are flying off the board quickly in free agency. We still have to fill our void at edge rusher. We re-signed Pernell McPhee and may try to bring back Tyus Bowser.
That isn’t going to cut it, though. We need a proven edge rusher. Or we need to at least draft a potential one. Haason Reddick is that. He is a former first-round pick, who is coming off a breakout season with 12.5 sacks.
Spotrac estimates that Reddick’s market value is somewhere around 4-years, $46 million ($11.6 million a year). That is a solid price for someone with higher sack numbers than anyone on our roster last season. I say let’s do it. Manipulate the cap, extend or restructure someone, do what you have to because we bring in a strong pass rusher during Ravens free agency.
In my opinion, it is more important than a so-called “number one wide receiver.”
There is also a possibility that we re-sign veteran defensive end Derek Wolfe. And we brought back restricted free agent Chris Board on a 1-year deal. Wolfe proved himself last season. And Board is a key special teams contributor.
