I have a bold Ravens prediction for the upcoming season. It has to do with Sammy Watkins stats. Next year, I believe that Watkins will have a good and healthy season. Also, I believe that he will sign an extension with the Ravens after the season.
I know there are mixed reviews about the signing, but I think, especially for the price, that it is a great signing for the Ravens. I believe that Watkins will be able to act as a WR1 for the Ravens. Maybe not a WR1 for another team, but the Ravens don’t need a guy to put up 1,400 + yards. They need a guy like Watkins who, if healthy, can put up 800-1,000 yards for them.
I believe that Watkins will play in at least 13 regular season games and put up over 800 receiving yards and 6 or more touchdowns. Whether people want to admit it or not, Watkins is definitely an upgrade to the Ravens wide receiver group.
Sammy Watkins Press Conference
During the Sammy Watkins press conference, he was asked why he left the Chiefs, even though he recently won a Super Bowl there. This was his response:
“I had my fun there. It was an amazing, amazing time [and] a great organization. I just wanted a new scenery for myself,” Watkins said on a conference call with reporters Monday. “There was one team that stuck out, and it was the Ravens and Lamar Jackson. I heard too many great stories about just the team and the history of Baltimore. But I think when they hired one of my favorite guys that I train with in the offseason, [pass game specialist] Keith Williams, and of course [offensive coordinator] Greg [Roman], the offensive coordinator who I worked early in my career at Buffalo, it was like, ‘Man, this will be a good fit.’CBS Sports
While I do understand that Watkins hasn’t produced more than 60 catches or 700 yards receiving in the last 5 seasons, durability has been the issue, not ability. It is important to point out that Watkins was able to stay healthy playing under Greg Roman. He also was able to put up two solid years of 65 receptions for 982 yards with 6 touchdowns and 60 reception for 1047 yards and 9 touchdowns. In 2015, Watkins had a 17.5 yard-per-catch average on 60 receptions. Roman obviously knows how to use Watkins.
Sammy Watkins could step in and be Lamar Jackson’s favorite target. He definitely respects Lamar’s game too:
“This is your show. I just want to be a part of it. You’re a special talent, and I just want to come here and try to help out as far as making plays for you.”Sammy Watkins to Lamar Jackson ESPN
I believe in Sammy Watkins’ ability to help the Baltimore Ravens get over this playoff hump. I am not saying he will do everything, but if you combined him with guys like Marquise Brown, Devin Duvernay, Mark Andrews, and J.K. Dobbins… the Ravens have a pretty great offense.
So for my Ravens prediction for the 2021 season, I have Sammy Watkins putting up over 800 receiving yards and 6+ touchdowns, as well as being active in 13 or more regular season games.
